How to Check and Deactivate Call Forwarding on MTN Ghana

ACCRA — MTN Ghana subscribers can determine whether their calls are being forwarded to another number by dialing specific USSD codes, a feature that allows customers to monitor and control call diversion settings on their lines.
Call forwarding, also known as call divert, automatically redirects incoming calls to another number or voicemail when a subscriber is unavailable, busy, unreachable, or does not answer. While the service can be useful, unintended activation may result in missed calls.
USSD Codes to Check Call Forwarding Status
MTN provides separate USSD codes for checking different call forwarding conditions. Subscribers can dial the following:
- *#21# — Checks whether all incoming calls are being forwarded
- *#61# — Checks forwarding for unanswered calls
- *#62# — Checks forwarding when the phone is off or unreachable
- *#67# — Checks forwarding when the line is busy
After dialing any of the codes, the network displays the current status on screen. A “Not Forwarded” message indicates the service is inactive, while a listed number confirms that calls are being redirected.
How to Deactivate Call Forwarding on MTN Ghana
Subscribers who wish to stop call forwarding can disable the service using corresponding deactivation codes.
- ##21# — Cancels all call forwarding
- ##61# — Cancels forwarding for unanswered calls
- ##62# — Cancels forwarding when unreachable
- ##67# — Cancels forwarding when the line is busy
Once a code is dialed, MTN sends a confirmation message indicating that call forwarding has been successfully disabled.
Alternative Method via Phone Settings
Call forwarding can also be managed directly from a handset’s settings. On smartphones, the option is typically found under call or supplementary service settings, where each forwarding condition can be reviewed and disabled manually.
Telecom experts note that call forwarding differs from call barring, which blocks calls entirely rather than redirecting them. Subscribers experiencing missed calls are advised to check forwarding settings before assuming network issues.
MTN Ghana says the USSD services are free and available to all customers nationwide.
