The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates across Ghana.
According to WAEC, the results have been sent to schools through the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates who wish to check their results online can do so on WAEC’s official website.
This year’s examination saw 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools take part, including 304,415 males and 315,828 females. The candidates included students with visual impairment, hearing impairment and other special educational needs. The exams were held at 2,237 centres nationwide, while 3,601 registered candidates were absent.
Following investigations into examination malpractice
WAEC cancelled the subject results of 496 candidates and the entire results of 105 candidates. In addition, the subject results of 119 candidates and the full results of 48 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
The council also withheld the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools for additional scrutiny. WAEC says these results will either be released or cancelled after investigations are completed by 31 August 2026.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld can check the reason and any required next steps through WAEC’s irregularity portal.
WAEC has also cautioned the public against fraudsters who claim they can upgrade examination results for a fee, stressing that its results are secure and can be verified.
The council thanked the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school authorities, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders for supporting the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE.
